Researchers at the University at Buffalo have developed a solar water purifier that is faster and cheaper than other devices on the market. The professor who led this invention said, “Solar energy is available for free. “In some tropical countries, other things may be scarce, but solar energy is readily available,” he said.
If you look at the design, it looks like an A-shaped tent. Black carbon paper is hung from above and the edges of the paper must be dipped in water to absorb water like a flood. This technology is a modification of the previous solar distillation system. First let the water evaporate. Then the steam will be cooled. Will collect later. The pollution will remain. Gan’s team changed the design of the solar distillation system to make it more efficient in operation. In this new model, the sun is no longer exposed to direct sunlight, but the slanted shape has been changed, and the temperature of the paper is lower than the ambient temperature. By doing this, the heat from the environment can be used and the solar energy consumption can be reduced during evaporation.

Gan and his partners have set up a company to bring this technology to market. Their device can collect 2-10 liters of water per day on sunny days. An adult woman needs an average of 2.7 liters of water a day, and a man needs about 3.7 liters. Another 80 percent got it from the drinks they were drinking.
So, a solar distiller can provide a whole family with clean drinking water for a day. The device is said to cost around $200 and will be available around the next year. Gunn also said that the device is expected to be cheaper than the devices that have been released recently.
This device can be used on any water surface, including lakes and oceans. “The main thing is that people in different places have different needs. Especially the water type is different,” Gan said.
This distiller is bacteria, Viruses and other toxins can be removed by almost 100%. Chemicals such as pesticides that are dissolved with water cannot be removed very much, and these things tend to evaporate together with the water.

Desmond Lawler, an engineering professor at the University of Texas at Austin, said, “The humidity of the area where the machine will be used is an issue to be aware of. In a very humid place, it will be difficult for water to evaporate. You will need to work as a team to refine the design for each location. As for me, I don’t want to use the machine in places where there is already clean water. The simplicity of this device will be promising. It’s something that will be really useful for an emergency situation,” he said.
Overall, since carbon paper is also easily available, the solar still is expected to be relatively inexpensive. As there are many advantages, it is hoped that it will be a good help for places in need solar water purifier.
