Elon Musk is reportedly in talks with Apple for an iPhone 14 satellite system. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said he has talked to Apple about using Starlink satellite communications technology in the new iPhones.
The new iPhone 14 introduced on September 7 comes with a feature that can send emergency SOS messages through satellite communication. The satellite communication technology used in the iPhone 14 models does not use Starlink, but satellite service from Globalstar. Apple has set aside $450 million in advanced manufacturing funding to support satellite communications technology, most of which will come from GlobalStar.
The iPhone company has yet to say which other companies are involved in this funding program. Apple will provide 90% of the cost of satellite communication technology for the construction of the new GlobalStar satellite, but the GlobalStar company will also have to take additional debt for the construction and installation of the new satellite.
This company is building low earth orbit LEO satellites and is getting investment from Goldman Sachs & Co bank. The financial investment is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022. LEO satellites operate 36 times closer to Earth than conventional satellites, so it takes less time to receive information and can provide faster broadband services in areas where there is no network.
The Starlink satellite company under the SpaceX company owned by the world’s richest tycoon. Elon Musk is also spreading the LEO satellite internet system. SpaceX plans to partner with T-Mobile to provide satellite communications services for smartphones starting next year. Elon Musk says there has been some promising talk in talks about Starlink satellite service with Apple.

He also said that iPhone communications from space would work best if they had hardware compatible with Starlink’s online cell towers. Apple has not made any statement regarding discussions about Starlink service with SpaceX.
Last August, SpaceX and Tesla announced a new “satellite-to-cellular” service. The service, which will use second-generation Starlink satellites in low-Earth orbit. It paired with T-Mobile’s mid-band 5G spectrum, providing near-perfect coverage across the United States.
Unlike Apple’s satellite communication system used in the iPhone 14. T-Mobile and SpaceX will support the satellite communication system for existing smartphones. And the service expected to begin by the end of 2023.
