If we want multiple futures, going green is one future. It’s no surprise when you see an electronics giant like Samsung taking their smallest ecological footprint forward with organizations adopting eco-friendly solutions.
Last year saw the “rise” of Samsung. A dot-matrix printed box made from eco- packaging “-corrugated cardboard” allows you to turn it into something more useful. And this year we got something bigger. Solar remote control systems!
Starting this 2021, 2021K and 4K Samsung QLED TVs will come with a solar powered remote control. It looks like your everyday TV remote on the front. to change channels; Buttons to connect to the Internet You have buttons. (Oh, how fun it is to play with this one while sleeping.)
But flip that remote and you’ll find a small solar panel that can light your home or charge it with direct sunlight. You can place the remote control in a well-lit area during the day (like your entryway, kitchen, work desk) and use it at night when the sun is facing the other side of the globe. Internal battery lasts up to seven years. About the average lifespan of a Samsung TV.
Don’t worry if you live in London or anywhere that doesn’t get the sun. The solar remote has a USB-C port and can be charged like any other electronic device.
The best thing about this remote is that it is not compatible with alkaline batteries at all. I hear you’re right. No more AAA batteries, Or stop looking for them in the store. Samsung’s new remotes will definitely help prevent improper disposal of batteries and more importantly, the harmful chemicals they produce.
Needless to say, Samsung’s solar-powered remote controls are trying to be more environmentally friendly. Samsung makes their new remotes using recycled plastic from recycled bottles, reducing the amount of new plastic that goes into the world.
In addition to their new solar-powered remotes, Samsung also announced some of their other efforts to become a greener company: they’re extending their eco-packaging design to their entire line of lifestyle TVs and most of their 2021 Neo QLED line. The overall carbon footprint of TV production is decreasing. They are starting to plan to use more recycled materials in their televisions. Outside of production, Samsung also plans to reduce the power consumption of all their TVs.
